ABOUT DARREN

Warm, witty and completely on your side.

I'm Darren, a Melbourne marriage celebrant & MC who believes your ceremony should sound like you, not like paperwork read aloud.

A smiling man in a dark suit with a white shirt posing against a beige background.

"Your love deserves a celebrant who actually gets it - and who'll make the whole room feel it too."

We've all sat through at least one wedding that felt like a form being filled in out loud. I bring a calm, easy presence to the lead-up, so the planning feels light, and on the day, the right mix of heart, humour and genuine emotion.

I take the time to really get to know you both. Your story, your in-jokes, the way you met, the bits that make people cry (the good kind). Then I weave it all into a ceremony that feels unmistakably yours - inclusive, modern, and never, ever dull.

I'm proudly part of the LGBTIQ+ community, and an ally and advocate for marriage equality. Every couple, every love, gets the same genuinely warm welcome and care.

So let's ditch the dull and make your ceremony the highlight of the whole day - the part people talk about at the bar afterwards.

I didn’t set out to become a celebrant

HOW I GOT HERE

I spent years working in corporate jobs before my best friend asked me to marry her and her partner in a ceremony in India. I said yes before I'd really thought it through, then spent weeks with their story, their families, their inside jokes. Standing up in front of everyone that day, it clicked. This was the thing I was meant to do.

What hooked me wasn't the ceremony itself. It was the fifteen minutes afterwards, when three different people said "that was so them". That's still the only review I'm chasing.

Since then I've married many couples across Melbourne, Victoria, Palm Cove and London. Backyards, warehouses, wineries, the registry-style ten-minute version, All of them memorable yet different. The only thing that doesn’t change is my approach.

Home base

I live in Brunswick but travel anywhere. Originally from Far North Queensland

More than 500! My partner Sean and I are currently planning our own nuptials.

No. of times Nigella Lawson has responded to me on social media

Just once, but I’ll never forget it.

Weakness

Our dog, a miniature labradoodle who has stolen my heart (sorry Sean). And Italian food.

A couple signs a marriage document during their wedding ceremony, with a woman laughing and an officiant raising a hand nearby. The bride has long blonde hair with a flower crown, and the groom has dark hair, wearing a light-colored suit with a white boutonniere. A bouquet with white flowers is on the table, outdoors with greenery in the background.
