How to Use AI to Write Your Wedding Vows (without losing the magic)

Writing wedding vows = exciting + terrifying + a little bit “OMG, how do I even start?!”

Good news: you don’t have to face the blank page alone. AI (yep, Artificial Intelligence) can help you find the right words - your words - and turn that vow-writing panic into a creativity boost.

I know it can feel like a bit of an ick. No, it’s not “cheating.” It’s using a clever little tool to get the ideas flowing. Think of AI as your digital brainstorming buddy. Here’s how to make it work for you 👇

💡 Step 1: Know your vibe

Before you fire up the tech, take a moment to jot down what you actually want to say. Do you want your vows to be romantic? Funny? A bit of both? Think about key moments you want to include - your first date, shared quirks, inside jokes, promises for the future. This list = gold when it comes to writing (or prompting an AI).

🤖 Step 2: Pick your tool

There are a few AI writing tools out there (ChatGPT, Jasper, Copilot... just to name a few). Most of them work in a similar way, you give them a prompt, they give you some words back. Easy.

You don’t need to be techy, either. If you can type into Google, you can use AI.

✍️ Step 3: Write a juicy prompt

Here’s where the magic happens. The better your prompt, the better the results. Try something like:

“Help me write a funny and heartfelt wedding vow that includes a promise to always support each other’s dreams and mentions our first date at the beach.”

You can even add: “Make it sound casual, personal, and not too sappy.”

Boom. You’ll get a solid draft to work from. Not perfect, but something to shape into your own.

✂️ Step 4: Tweak and personalise

Don’t just copy and paste, it’ll likely sound like a 2005 rom-com. Pick the bits that feel right, then make them yours. Add your voice, your humour, your real-life memories. A weird inside joke? Yes. A vow to tolerate their 11pm snack habits? Absolutely.

🙌 Step 5: Enjoy the process

Using AI isn’t about taking shortcuts, it’s about sparking ideas. If you’re feeling stuck or overwhelmed, it’s the perfect way to break through the block and get those words rolling. Just don’t forget: the magic happens when you take the reins and make it personal.

TL;DR: Tech can be romantic too 💕

AI is just a tool, like a fancy pen, but with internet access. Use it to kick off your vow-writing, and then let your own voice shine through.

Want to write from scratch instead? I’ve got a whole other blog on writing vows the old-fashioned (but still fun) way: check it out here.

And if you want someone to bounce ideas off or finesse what you’ve written? That’s literally part of what I do. Let’s make your vows something unforgettable 💍
